I know it has been a few weeks. But between work and being sick I had no time to do a write-up about Toronto Fashion Week, so here is my recap.

I had a pleasure of attending my first Toronto fashion show and I had so much fun. I ended up going for 2 Fashion Talks and 2 Fashion Shows.

The first talk was from the cast of Stitched, the new show on Slice and it was very interesting to hear their take on fashion and the way social media is changing the way we see fashion. Years ago the industry dictated us what to wear. But now with social media that doesn’t work anymore and that’s why we don’t have as many fads as we used to.

We now wear what we want, when we want and where we want. There are no more rules…who still wears white after labour day?

The second talk was with Alexandra Palmer, Senior Curator of World Cultures, Textiles and Fashions at the Royal Ontario Museum where she talked about the evolving fashion and how exhibits are curated. It was interesting to hear about her travels all over the world in search of fashion relics to complement the exhibits. And did you know that many of the fashion pieces get donated to the exhibits by individuals?

After a short break I was off to the fashion shows. The 3 designers I saw were Daniel Gregory Natale, Wil Studios and Pedram Karimi.

Daniel Natale show was my favourite. Even though it was eccentric, some pieces could be adapted into daily style. He is known for his bulkier clothing and jackets that can complement anyone.

Next up was Wil Studios with his men’s collection. It was a street style inspired clothing and I can see many teenage boys totally rocking his stuff.

Now the last show I did not understand whatsoever. It was supposed to be inspired by transformations like the emergence of a butterfly from it’s cacoon. The collection was nothing but material randomly sewn together. To me this was not street or runway worthy. It was very artistic, I give him that but this is not the kind of fashion I understand or will ever adopt.

All in all it was a fun day and I enjoyed seeing the artistic creations and meeting new individuals in the fashion industry. Looking forward to going back next year.
