Hi Lovelies,

Today I want to share some of the things I have learned while running a blog. It’s not as easy and requires way more work than you anticipate.

#1 Finding the time. Having a full time business and a family, it can be hard to find the time to blog and post on social media. It’s really a balancing act that requires a lot of precision.

#2 Many in your circle won’t be very supportive and will not be as enthusiastic about your blog.

#3 You have to work really really hard to promote it.

#4 Staying motivated can be a hard one, especially when you put a lot of time into something and the response is just…meh.

#5 Producing interesting and engaging content isn’t always easy. There are many times when I have bloggers block and cannot come up with any ideas on what to write or whatever I write doesn’t come out good or engaging.

# 6 Taking good quality photos takes a looooot of time. I never realized how many shots you need to take to come up with that one good one. There are times when I have to take 50 -75 photos to have just one that’s worthy enough to go up on social media….no joke.

#7 Finding time to stay consistent is super important. If you want to grow and maintain readership you have to be consistent; both with your blogs and your social media. The rule for me is 1-2 posts per day on social media and 1-2 blog posts per week (if I can come up with interesting enough content).

#8 Figuring out your brand and demographic. This is essential as your brand and demographic will dictate your layouts, colors, website and social media marketing strategy.

#9 Staying relevant to your brand and demographic. There have been times when I tried deviating from my theme/brand and immediately saw a drop in followers, had many unsubscribes and way less likes/comments on social media. So pick your niche and stick to it.

#10 Comparing yourself to other bloggers. It’s difficult not to compare yourself to bloggers who are super successful and have hundreds of thousands of followers and thousands of likes and comments. However, what I have to remind myself is there is space for everyone to be successful and each one of us is unique in the content we are producing.

So all in all blogging isn’t as easy and rosy as it comes out once it’s all done. It’s a lot of hard work and dedication; but if you love it, it will be that much easier to get over the struggles…even though there will be days where you will have zero motivation. Just accept is a part of the journey and move on.

Stay fabulous babes!

Maria, xoxo
