I recently found out about Hockley Valley Resort that is only an hour away from Toronto and I had the pleasure of having a staycation a few weeks ago.
I am the person who believes that staycations are super important and it is really nice to get away even for a day or two. It totally rejuvenates you and is so good for your soul and mental clarity. So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered something so close to home.
It is a small resort but they pay attention to every detail. They have a full spa and a FANTASTIC restaurant, Cabin where food is AMAZING. They also have a golf course in the summer and ski hills in the winter, so it is an all year round resort.
My family and I went for 2 days and 1 night. We arrived earlier than the checkout time and were pleasantly surprised to find out that our room was ready. The hotel staff was super friendly and the room was spacious, clean and had a very serene view of the golf course.
After checking in we went for a walk around the property and found out that the hotel grows lots of veggies that are used in the restaurant and anything they don’t grow they bring in from local farms. As you guys know I am all about farm to table and anything natural, so this meant a lot to me (and…I impatiently started waiting for dinner, lol).
It was a hot day so after a walk we went straight to the outdoor pool which was small but was surrounded by lots of greenery so it had a very tropical feel to it. However it wasn’t their only pool, they also have an indoor pool which is great for those cold rainy days. If you have kids you know that a pool is the best way to entertain them for hours; while the parents can enjoy the hot tub and a sauna while watching the kids. Mainly all the facilities are very clean which is super important to me.
Hockley Valley Resort is a very peaceful place that you want to visit all the time. Even though you are only about an hour away from Toronto, you feel like you are very far away from home, which for me is the best way to relax. If I stay at home on a staycation I will just end up working or doing things around the house and at the end it will not feel like a staycation at all. So getting away is vital for me in order to relax.
Now besides relaxation I am a foodie and was really looking forward to trying the food at their restaurant, Cabin. And let me tell you it did not disappoint. We were seated at the Chef’s table and he made a meal that tantalized all of the senses. I have been to many restaurants and the food here is definitely in the top 5 of the yummiest foods I have eaten. I would honestly recommend for you to try, even if you do not stay overnight at the resort.
And since I mentioned to the chef that I have a gluten allergy, he left a note for the chef in the morning so I had a great pleasure of eating very delicious gluten-free pancakes for breakfast. If you have a gluten allergy and live in Toronto, you know that it is almost impossible to find any yummy gluten-free pancakes at restaurants. This is just an example of the way they go above and beyond for their guests.
I also had the pleasure of doing a pool side yoga class after breakfast and let me tell you I need to find more outdoor yoga classes. With the noise of a waterfall in the background and the early morning sun it was a great class…now on a mission to find one locally.
This is not a very busy resort and they do not have as many activities as some others; but Hockley Valley is perfect for a quieter more relaxing stay whether it is for a couple or for a family getaway. They also have wine tours to Adamo Estate Winery for all the wine lovers and a shuttle bus that takes you there (just arrange it through the resort). But with an indoor pool and a spa you pretty much have all that you need to relax and unwind.
Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely be back again. So if you are looking for a short getaway I highly recommend Hockley Valley Resort.
Would love to know your favourite getaway spot, so comment below.
