I wanted to write this blog for a while because what  you see on social media is not always what you get.  And with our generation being on social media all the time it is very easy to become disouraged and unhappy with yourself and your life when you look at those so called “perfect” photos.

However behind every “perfect” photo there is a person and everyone… and I mean EVERYONE… has some sort of problems, bad hair days, bad skin days and just bad days when nothing is going right.

I get messages and comments on Instagram about how beautiful the photos are however to get that beautiful shot it takes A LOT of photos before I like one of them to be posted. And if you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories I often post those #behindthescenes shots that would never get approved for social media.

For example in the photo below, the right one is what I post. However, the left one will never make the cut because the lighting hits my thighs in a bad way making them look big. But both of those photos is what my body looks like.

We all know our best angles and our best poses that will accent what needs to be accented and hide what we don’t want seen. There is also good lighting and the old fashioned “suck it in and flex it” trick 🙂

Because let me tell you, even the most fit indivdual does not walk around with a six pack at all times. When we eat and drink out stomach expands… and that is absolutely normal. We also get bloated. I even wrote a blog about it and posted my before and after. You can read about it here.

Do I try to take my photos before I eat…absolutely! I also eat very healthy and work out to stay in shape. But even then my thighs can look big and my stomach isn’t always flat…and that’s life. That is a normal human body. So whenever you see that perfect photo, think about how many shots it took and how many poses were done before getting that “perfect” shot.

Now in my photos you will NEVER see anything photoshopped. The only thing I do is adjust the lighting and maybe put a filter. But to me authenticity is super important and being on social media I feel some responsibility to the yonger generation to show them what a normal body looks like.

I am in good shape because I work hard at staying fit and I am very careful about what I eat. However I am not size 0, my thighs do not have the thigh gap, at the end of the night my stomach is no longer flat and I do have a roll when I bend over. And you know what…every human being does. That is just the way the body works.

Below is another example of the photo that made the cut and the photo that didn’t. On the left I look very wide and it is just not a flattering photo overall however the right photo is slimming and highlights all the right angles.

Now I personally love seeing pretty social media feeds and I enjoy all the “perfect” shots since I know this is Instagram and not reality. But if you or someone you know gets down about themselves after looking at social media…don’t… because social media is not what real life looks like.

Hope you enjoyed reading this. And if you want to see more behind the scenes content, comment below and I will post more raw images on my Insta stories.

Also, please share this so we can spread more awareness that social media and real life is not the same thing. xoxo
