This summer has been so much fun with lots of gatherings, pool parties, trips and bbq’s. What isn’t fun is that now I am feeling sluggish, bloated and tired, lol.
As much as I tried to stay healthy I wasn’t as careful about non gluten foods (I am celiac), ate foods I wouldn’t normally eat and had too much Rosé. And exercise…well there wasn’t much of that….unless doing cheers counts as an arm workout.
So once September hits and kids are back in school I cannot wait to get back on track with my exercise and nutrition.
But it is never easy, especially the first few days, as the body craves all the junk it has gotten used to; especially sugar. That is THE hardest habit to break. So this is what I will be doing starting next week to get myself back on track.
- Drinking LOT’S of water, as kidney health requires plenty of water. Don’t just drink when you are thirsty, drink at regular intervals to ensure you are getting about 8-10 glasses of water per day since thirstiness is already a sign of dehydration. Drinking water helps your body flush out the unwanted toxins; and to help you stay on track with the water intake Healthish came out with a great water bottle with time indicators to remind you when you need to drink.
- Avoiding processed foods. Processed foods are packed with chemical preservatives and food of unknown sources with very questionable ingredients. All that food has a ton of toxins and additives that our liver has to process and detox. So I will be opting for healthy whole foods that are packed with nutrients instead.
- Limiting alcohol and caffeine intake. The liver prioritizes detoxing alcohol, meaning that everything else gets re-circulated back into the blood stream when you liver is backed up. Liver is our second largest organ and carries out an incredibly important function as the body’s main detoxifier. Take care of your liver so it can take care of you.
- Getting back to regular workouts because I feel so much better when I work out. Not only is it good for my health and makes me feel stronger it also helps with my anxiety. My favourite workouts are from Beachbody. I love the variety of workouts and the fact that I can get many done in under 30 minutes from the comfort of my home. What helps me get motivated is cute activewear that fits well and looks good. Currently loving Vie Activewear for their fun designs, superior comfort and a great fit. Also their sports bras provide great support (something that is not easy to find). Use discount code DESIGN20 if you want to order….I am obsessed with my leopard print leggings.
- Last but not least I will be adding lots of colourful veggies to my diet. Most vegetables have an alkalizing effect on the body and the liver functions best in that environment. So add lemons, avocados, beets, collard greens, spinach and kale to your daily diet and help your liver detoxify.
